Are we crazy to share before and after our wedding? YOU THEN. But the effort to improve our tiny bathroom was worth it! Now that we are newlyweds, we have a completely remodeled bathroom in our house. It’s pretty perfect! We used EasyCare Ultra Premium Paint from True Value to completely overhaul the space. As I said yesterday, we plan to use the cabin as a vacation rental soon, so renovating the bathroom was a big deal for us. This means we are one step closer to listing. Plus, it’s nice to have a small space that feels like a work in progress! Our bathroom is a space that has faced many changes: we had to rebuild a completely destroyed wall and floor to renovate the kitchen and it was always in terrible condition.

And I can’t believe I put these images out into the world for everyone to see! As you know, our bathroom is very small. We’ve made a few updates to it in the four years I’ve lived here, like swapping out the broken vanity for a salvaged pedestal sink (
). We also removed the old school light and installed something more modern… but the electrical box doesn’t move so it’s not in the middle. We also took the old, broken medicine cabinet and threw away the old mirror I had in my old attic.
I can be very indecisive when choosing paint colors. I actually drew these 4 models about 2 months before we started the remodel because I wanted to live with them. It’s also helpful to see how each color changes based on lighting at different times of day. For me, this is the part of the design process that helps me be 100% sure about my paint color choice.

). To color the walls and ceiling, I needed two colors that were similar but different enough to stand out from each other.
Surprisingly, it’s incredibly easy to paint the color block technique on your walls and ceilings! Just make sure you invest in quality and classy paint tape. I chose to match the edge to the top of the bump around our shower enclosure. It felt like a natural place to draw the line. Also, I like to use a darker color on the bottom if I’m going to color anything. Your eyes tend to see darker colors as “heavier,” so it’s more natural to have a lighter color on top.
Additionally, I chose to go with a Satin finish because it was the most forgiving option. Our house is really old and we don’t have a lot of time to resurface the drywall. We sanded it thoroughly and treated the holes before starting, but that was it. I was amazed at how smooth the walls looked!
I feel like choosing paint for the bathroom is a much more difficult process than choosing paint for anywhere else in your home. First of all, it’s a small space so the paint smell can be very strong. Second, the bathroom can be a heavily used space and requires a durable and moisture-resistant paint. New, environmentally friendly paints are called low-VOC paints, and they contain fewer volatile chemicals than conventional paints. The best low-VOC paint for you depends on the project you’re working on and the desired finish. Here’s what to keep in mind when buying low-VOC paint, along with our recommendations for some of the best options.
Before purchasing your paint project, it is important to understand the difference in the amount of toxic compounds found in low-VOC paints versus those classified as no-VOC.
Voc Paint Vs No Voc Paint: What’s The Difference?
With low VOC paint, there are no government guidelines for certifying low VOC paint. However, some manufacturers limit the amount of toxins in low-VOC paints to less than 50 grams per liter (g/L) for flat finishes and no more than 110 g/L for finished paints. not flat.
Manufacturers that follow those guidelines can have their paint products certified as GS-11 by the nonprofit Green Seal. Their paints can also earn GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certification from UL, a non-profit safety organization; it indicates that it is tested annually and complies with voluntary low VOC standards.
